Hearing Assessments

Our qualified audiologists offer 30 minute simple screening checks as well as a full comprehensive diagnostic test to deliver a personal, private and holistic assessment of your hearing.

Our hearing assessments

We offer two types of hearing assessments in all of our practices across Derbyshire, Cheshire and Staffordshire.

Our Hearing Check service (a complimentary basic test with every ear wax removal appointment) is a 30 minute session including a personal case history, an examination of the ear canal and ear drum (Otoscopy), an air conduction test which shows how well your entire hearing pathway transmits sound, and a bone conduction test which evaluates how well sounds are transmitted through the bones of the skull to the inner ear.

We charge £70.00 for this test. However, it is complimentary with every Ear Wax Removal Appointment.

Our more comprehensive Hearing And Communication Assessment
(HACA) is a 90 minute appointment and includes everything in the standard Hearing Check. Additionally, we perform Tympanometry, a non-invasive test that assesses your hearing using changes in air pressure, speech evaluation tests, and noise tolerance which identifies your cognitive capacity to identify types of sound in noisy environments. We then take full lifestyle and case history assessment creating a holistic approach unique to each person. Our fully qualified team will then present an easy-to-understand explanation of the results and recommend any treatments if necessary.

A Hearing & Communication Assessment costs £95.00.

Why Would You Need A Hearing Test?

Do you?

  • Often feel that other people are ‘mumbling’ or not speaking clearly?
  • Have trouble following a conversation when there is background noise present?
  • Need to turn the television or radio up and even then, sometimes it is still not clear?
  • Often ask people to repeat what they have said?
  • Feel stressed or tired when you have to listen for long periods of time?
  • Avoid social groups because there is too much noise and you struggle to hear clearly?
  • Do friends and family ask if you are having problems hearing?

If you have answered ‘yes’ to two or more of these questions, then we would suggest an in-depth HACA hearing test. This will show the type and degree of any hearing loss. And if you need a medical referral and what the best path is for you.

You will have the chance to discuss your concerns and to learn the exact nature of any potential hearing loss and to think about possible options. We also offer trial periods and demos of our hearing technology so you can hear just how much you may have been missing out on.

How Can Untreated Hearing Loss Affect You?

Untreated hearing loss can make it difficult to stay connected, communicate well, and remain active in the community. It can affect your ability to follow conversations and is often very tiring. It has also been linked to dementia.

If your affected by hearing loss and don’t address it, studies have shown it can make you feel more isolated and can cause mental health issue such as depression and loneliness. Additionally, listening to the television and radio can be less enjoyable and using the telephone could become very challenging.
